Hello, I am Amanda Goldston.

We are a homeschooling family and have been since March 2007. Greg, my husband, teaches our girls (13 and 15) Maths, Science and IT and I  do most of the rest of the subjects.

We follow a semi-structured curriculum, including Maths and English.

Both girls are working wtowards IGCSE exams and LAMDA exams in Speech and Drama.

We are based in the UK, however we would be delighted to hear from Home Schooling or Home Educating families anywhere.

The Goldston Academy for the Insane:

Yes, that about sums up this family and this whole home schooling experience!

A few months ago, we ordered a German Language programme for the girls. On the form, it asked for either a “Company Name” or a “School Name”. I tried to leave the box blank, as really we are neither.

However, we had to put something. Jacqueline, my  then 11 year old, piped up with the suggestion of “The Goldston Academy for the Insane.”  She said she thought it was a very appropriate name!

We put it on the form and the package duly arrived with “GOLDSTON ACADEMY FOR THE INSANE” splattered in big letters all across the parcel.

The delivery man initially knocked at out house, asking us to take the parcel in for our neighbour, because he thought it was for her. I am sure she would be delighted with that!

So, the name has stuck and we live up to it more and more every day. And, yes, every bit of correspondence we have had since from the language company has those magical words emblazened right across it.
